About mcubed.net Why the name?
She grew up on a farm, the youngest of eight children. She got to go college on a scholarship and was a math teacher. When children started arriving, she became a stay at home mom. She continued teaching as a substitute. She initialed hall passes M3 (pronounced M cubed). I've always embraced being second generation mcubed.
Why the web-site?
In 1997, my buddy Harry and I were in Beaver Stadium watching our beloved Nittany Lions soundly beat Wisconsin. At that point in the season, we were 9-1, only having lost to undefeated Michigan. The next day, I was at the Ravens game in Baltimore with my son. Of course, I was thinking about the Penn State game and rankings. I thought the rankings were too much of a popularity poll and thought "hey, teams should be ranked using math ... who did you beat; who did you lose to". I started ranking the teams and not long after that mcubed.net was started. On a related note, I was too young to remember myself, but my older brother remembers our Dad yelling at the TV when Nixon declared Texas the national champion in 1969. The thought of it still makes me chuckle. You had to know our Dad ... :) Web-site expansion
Harry was a self-described "idea-man". He came up with the "taking sports history to the 3rd power" catch phrase. He passed away too young and I miss him. Final notes
And, as the original MMM would often simply say: Enjoy! Enjoy!
